Most homes have at least one awkward gap — under the stairs, a hallway nook, a bedroom alcove, the bit next to the fireplace — that ends up as the junk shelf. Built-in storage turns that into the most useful part of the house.
We design built-ins around the things you actually need to store (shoes, school bags, suitcases, linen, vacuum, ironing board, the camping gear) and the exact shape of the space (sloped ceilings, uneven walls, nooks, alcoves).
Common built-in storage projects
- Under-stair storage — drawers, hanging space, and a deep cupboard for the things you want hidden
- Hallway nook storage — for the gap between bedrooms that you don’t know what to do with
- Bedroom built-ins — window seats with storage, alcoves next to fireplaces, the bit next to the wardrobe
- Dining-room alcoves — sideboards, bar cabinets, or display shelving
- Home-office storage — full-height bookshelves, filing drawers, printer cupboards
- Linen-press conversions — upgrading existing linen cupboards with adjustable shelving and drawers
Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between built-in storage and freestanding furniture?
Built-in storage is made-to-measure to the exact dimensions of your space, including the awkward bits — sloped ceilings, uneven walls, nooks under stairs, alcoves next to fireplaces. It typically goes floor-to-ceiling, giving you 30–50% more usable storage than off-the-shelf furniture of the same footprint.
Can you build into a nook under the stairs?
Yes — under-stair storage is one of our most common projects. We usually combine drawers, hanging space for coats, and a closed cupboard for vacuum cleaners and the things you want hidden.
How do you handle uneven walls or sloped ceilings?
We scribe every piece on-site during install. That means the joinery fits the exact shape of your space — no gaps, no caulk lines, no compromises.
Can built-in storage be moved if we sell the house?
Built-in storage is designed to stay with the house (and most buyers want it to). If you think you might want to take it with you, talk to us — we can design with that in mind, but it costs more and limits the design.
What finishes can I choose from?
We work in 2-pac painted finishes (most colours), timber veneer (oak, walnut, blackbutt), solid timber (oak, spotted gum, blackbutt), and laminate (Laminex, Polytec). We bring sample boards to the consult.
